Peacefully at Maple View with his family by his side on Sunday, January 1, 2023 at the age of 82. Beloved son of the late Jerry and Helen Furber. Loving father of Donald G Furber II (Pam), Lorie-Lynn Furber and Andrea Clayton (Drew). Proud grandpa of Erin (Brodie), Taylor (Mario), Rae Alexandra, Spencer, Tyler and the late Cole. Great grandpa of Keira, Kaylee and Kianna. Dear brother of Neil Furber (Sue). Donald will be greatly missed by many dear friends and by many nieces and nephews. Don was very proud of his 30 years working as a correctional officer who opened the young offender unit at the Sault Ste Marie Jail. He retired in 1994 as an operations manager at the Northern Treatment Centre. He later worked for the Arthur Funeral Home, volunteered at the SAH, Chamber of Commerce and was a long standing Legion member. During his retirement years, Don published 3 books that he was very proud of. Don was also known by his coworkers, friends and family as a "stats man".  He was an avid sports fan who loved the New York Rangers, Toronto Blue Jays, Soo Greyhounds and the Detroit Tigers. He enjoyed travelling to places which included western Canada, Europe and extensively through the United States visiting historical sites. He loved to read and had an extensive collection of books, war memorabilia and many other treasures. Thank you to the staff at McCarroll Lake at Maple View and Doctor Buehner for care and compassion.
