1936-2019

Giuseppe passed away peacefully on Friday March 29, 2019 at the Sault Area Hospital.  He was born in the town of Dipignano, Cosenza Italy, to the late Angelo and Rosina Furgiuele. Giuseppe immigrated to Canada and settled in Sault Ste. Marie where he met the love of his life, Paola. They were married for 56 years and they both devoted their lives to each other and their children. He was the cherished father to his twin daughters, Laura McLeod (Brian) and Lisa Foggia (Angelo) and his only son Robbie Furgiuele. Giuseppe was a loving and affectionate Nonno to Jamie-Lee Derevianko (Ilya), Tia and Levi Fleming, Briana, Matthew and Mac McLeod, Sara and Alex Foggia and Sarah Jane Rice (Ra). He also found great joy with his great grandchildren Allie, Lyla, Eila and Matteo. Giuseppe was a loving brother to Gilda Cucullo (late Sam), Rita Caruso (late Mario), Assunta Spadafora (Tony), Lina Pitaro (Nick) and Frank Furgiuele (Colette) and brother-in-law to Norma Batistella (late Giovanni), the late Anna Quizi (Manfred), Rose Dew (late Steven) and Ilia Celli.Papa was self-made and self-reliant. He was a child of meager means, who understood the value of a dollar but was a generous man and his family never wanted for anything. Papa was proud and passionate when taking care of his garden and many of us enjoyed the fruits of his labour.  He was a kind man who enjoyed his family, food and wine. He was loyal and faithful to everyone and had a work ethic which remains unmatched. A loving and a loyal human being. Our sincerest thanks to the Sault Area Hospital 3rd floor staff, the Paramedics, the nurses, doctor’s, PSW’s, caregivers, Station Mall Drug Mart and the Community Care Access Centre for their exceptional caregiving to Papa. Private family services will be held. Memorial donations may be made to the Sault Area Hospital or the Kidney Foundation. Have a good rest Papa. We miss you already. Until we see you again. Arrangements entrusted to O’Sullivan Funeral Home and Cremation Centre 215 St. James St. Sault Ste. Marie 705-759-8456.

Love is stronger than death even though it can’t stop death from happening, but no matter how hard death tries it can’t separate people from love. It can’t take away our memories either. In the end, life is stronger than death.
