It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Dave of Hilton Beach, Ontario, at the Sault Area Hospital on Friday, May 23, 2025, at the age of 81.
Dave is survived by his wife, Diane (née Hein); his children, Christina (Paul Belair) and Tracy (late Jane); his grandchildren Kayla (Belair) Gosslin, Travis Gosslin and Alex Belair, his great grandchildren, Daxton Gosslin and Blake Gosslin, and his sisters, Ann Gerhart and Lisa (John Day). He will be remembered with deep affection by his family, friends, and all who knew him.
Born on July 18, 1943, in Sault Ste. Marie, Dave was the son of the late Henry Gerhart and the late Marguerite (Smith) Gerhart, both originally of Algoma.
A driven and self-made entrepreneur, Dave built and operated a successful office supply and printing business. The success of that venture allowed him to retire at the age of 39—well ahead of most. Retirement, however, only opened the door to new pursuits. Over the following decades, Dave explored a wide range of interests with energy and commitment.
He served with the local volunteer fire department and worked as a paramedic, always drawn to roles that required action, responsibility, and helping others. He was also a passionate and eclectic collector, with a love for the unusual and the historic. His life was marked by curiosity, independence, and a desire to forge his own path.
A Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date. In Dave’s memory, donations to a charity of your choice are welcome. Arrangements entrusted to Northwood Funeral Home Cremation and Reception Centre (942 Great Northern Rd, 705-945-7758).
