It is with deep sorrow, we announce the passing of Mark Gigliotti Socchia, a gifted home chef, dedicated film industry professional, and beloved friend, who left us on January 28, 2025, at the age of 51.

Mark's love for food was evident in every dish he created. Whether experimenting with new recipes in his kitchen or preparing meals for those he cherished. He was a selfless individual, who, without hesitation, would put the needs of others before his own. Running into a burning building to save a life, is only one example of his selflessness.

Mark passed away while caring for his father. His warmth, generosity, and genuinely kind heart will forever be remembered by all who knew him.

In addition to his culinary talents, Mark enjoyed his career in the film industry.  A lighting member of the IATSE 873 union, and a joy to work with on set. Mark was bartender for many years as well, where he created lasting impressions with all those he met.

Mark will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and colleagues in both the hospitality and film industries.

He is survived by his mother, Irene Socchia, his father, Louie Gigliotti; his sister, Jesse-Ann Verdone; his brother-in law Anthony Verdone and his nephew, Luca Verdone. He will be lovingly remembered by his aunts and uncles Hans Klemm, Evelyn Weller, Marylou (Dave) Wardlaw, Karen (Tom) Walker, Steven (Jackie) Socchia, Heather and (late Mike Socchia) (Terry Freamon), Peter Socchia, Gloria Socchia, Sister Therese Socchia, John Gigliotti and many cousins.

He is also survived by many cherished friends and colleagues who considered him family.

Mark will always be remembered for his selfless spirit and his dedication to making the world a better place, one story, one meal, and one moment at a time.

A Celebration of Mark’s Life will be held on February 8, 2025, between 11:00am-1:00pm at O’Sullivan Funeral Home, where friends and family are invited to share memories to honour his remarkable journey.

Memorial donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation. Payable by cheque or online.
