Remembering Erik Edward Gjos (1959-2024)

Erik passed away peacefully with friends and family by his side on November 24th, 2024, after a long fight with cancer.

Despite being quiet and reserved, Erik had an adventurous soul and a quick wit. He devoted his life to his family, friends, the Canadian Armed Forces and the Métis Nation of Ontario. He loved golf, traveling and a nice glass of scotch.

Erik was born in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario in 1959 to Stan and Elizabeth “Betty” Gjos. He enjoyed many summers at the cottage and traveling throughout Europe and Africa with his parents and his younger brother.

He is predeceased by his dad, mom, brother Paul, his father-in-law Ronald and many loving aunts and uncles.

He is survived by his brother Stephen (Shelley), loving wife Lori, daughters Katherine and Emily (Andre), and his grand dogs Gordon and Scotia. Erik enjoyed a close relationship with his in-laws Sandra, Charlie (Pamela), Margaret and Joan-Marie, and his nieces and nephews; Alysha (Vic), Meagan, Brad (Alannah), Jordan “Jim”, AJ, and grandniece Penelope. He will fondly be remembered by many aunts, uncles and cousins, some of whom he grew up with.

Erik made many friends throughout his time in university, the Canadian Armed Forces, golf teams, the Métis Nation of Ontario and the many places he lived. His quiet persuasion, leadership and his “let’s get a coffee and go” outlook on life will be missed by many.

The family wishes to express their gratitude to the many nurses, doctors, PSWs and the support staff at the Ottawa General Hospital and Bruyere Health Saint-Vincent Hospital.

A celebration of life will be held in his honour on December 7, 2024, from 12-4 PM at Kelly’s Funeral Home (680 Eagleson Road). The family will welcome well-wishers from 12:00, with a service at 1:00 and a scotch toast and reception to follow.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Bruyere Health Saint-Vincent Hospital.
