Loving husband of Donna. Beloved father of Tara Rathbone (Steve) of Orleans, Ontario, Ryan Hackett (Alex De Castro) of Toronto, Ontario, and stepfather of Nick Sherman (Brittany) of Sherwood Park, Alberta.
Extremely proud Grandpa of Teagan Rathbone, Maren Rathbone, and Grace Sherman. His girls.
Allan loved this community, and it was evident by his 20 years on the board of the United Way Sault Ste Marie having served as Board Chair on 3 separate terms, 5 years on the Sault Ste Marie Museum Board serving 2 terms as Chair. Allan was the recipient of 2016 Outstanding Volunteer award from the United Way, 2017 Larry Knapp Community Building award for Sault Ste Marie, 2017 Sault Ste Marie Volunteer of the Year as well as 2017 Chairs Award of Distinction from United Way Centraide Canada. Allan had the distinction of being the very first merit based Federal Returning Officer in Canada a position that was a political appointment up until that time. Allan served as the Algoma Federal Returning Officer for 3 Federal Election Events. Many thanks to his good friends Randy Butcher and Remi Gentes for their support and many hours of time spent with Allan.
Thank you to the Renal Dialysis Nurses His Angels He enjoyed his conversations with each of you. Thanks to Dr Berry and Dr Shaffie for their care as well as the nursing staff of Unit 3C and Dr Tozer for your tender care of Allan in his final days.
Cremation has taken place. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. The Sault Ste Marie Public Library provided hundred of hours of entertainment to Allan over the years and especially the last 7 months via the audio book collection In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in his honour to the Sault Ste Marie Public Library or the charity of your choice would be greatly appreciated.
