He began his journey in the afterlife on Friday, July 5, 2024 at the Algoma Residential Community Hospice (ARCH), peacefully with his family by his side. 103 years young, Ed was predeceased by his wife Ellen (Dolly) and his partner Shirley Ricard. Beloved father of Barbara (Ann), Harry (Sandra) and George (Mary). Grandfather of Suzanne Cuthbertson, Randi Houston Jones, Dayne Houston, Emily Davidson (Rob), Liz McMillan (Dan), Amanda Knight, Becky Day, Barbara Day, Jake Day, David Diller and John Diller. Great grandfather of Michael Cuthbertson (Stephanie), Krystle Cuthbertson (Aaron Bird), Jessy Cuthbertson, Toni Clermont, Theo Mraud, Krista Bruzas, Chantel Ross, Willow Houston and Odin Houston. Great great grandfather of Mason Clermont, Margaret Liscombe, Charlie Lebrun, Matilda Bird, Luna Perault, Sloane Bruzas, Lincoln Cuthbertson, Mia Day and Evan Day.
Edward worked at Algoma Steel for over 40 years finishing as a heater in the Rail Mill when he retired in 1982. In 1961, he built Houston’s Esso in Heyden and moved the family to the country. Ed enjoyed retirement with summers at the cottage on St. Joe’s Island and winters in Florida. He also found time to take on roles in several community theatre plays. Family was a source of pride, and he welcomed each and every great grandchild.
A celebration of life will be announced at a later date. Memorial donations to ARCH would be greatly appreciated by the family.
