HUHTALA, Pirjo 'Perry' Hannelle (nee Rauman)

It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of Perry on Wednesday, April 2, 2025.

Born in Oulu, Finland on January 8, 1948, Perry spent her youth in Port Arthur, Ontario eventually settling in Sault Ste. Marie. She spent her later years in Essex, Ontario and wintering in Florida. Perry was an avid lover of the outdoors and enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening. Perry will be remembered for her kind heart and tenacious spirit.

Perry was the daughter of Pentti Rauman and Fanny Rauman (nee Eskuri); stepfather Mauri Ketomaki. Perry is survived by her siblings Tuula A. Kilgour (husband Andy and sons Burke and Dan), Hannu “Hon” Rauman (son Jordan) and Aileen Hubert (husband Danny and children Stephanie and Kyle). She is predeceased by her brother Pentti “Ben” Rauman (1995) and survived by his children Ben, Kara and Tyler. She will be missed by her many nieces and nephews.

Perry is predeceased by her husband Michael Donald Roberts (1969).

In 1978, Perry married Rainer “Ray” Tuevo Huhtala (2005) whom she shared 26 years of marriage. Perry leaves behind her stepchildren Terrance Huhtala (Melanie Gardin), Kristine Huhtala and was predeceased by Karen Huhtala (2021). Perry was known as “granny” to Mila, Seija and Elina Huhtala and Bradley and Juliana Ratchford. Perry will be remembered by her brother-in-law Brian Lindback (Huhtala) and his wife Linda. 

In her golden years, Perry was the loving companion for 8 years to Joseph Gazdig (2021). Perry will be fondly remembered by Joe’s children Kim Cushing (Shaun) and Blake Gazdig (Melissa) and their families.

A private ceremony has been held in Sault Ste. Marie. Interment at Greenwood Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to Northwood Funeral Home Cremation and Reception Centre (942 Great Northern Rd, Sault Ste.
