It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Larry Jacklin, on Wednesday, February 8, 2017, in Sault Ste. Marie Ontario, after a lengthy battle with cancer, at the age of 78. He is pre-deceased by his father Harry Pering. Larry was born in Toronto Ontario on May 24th, 1938. He spent a boisterous (his word) youth in Sudbury, Ontario. He moved to Sault Ste. Marie in 1961. He is survived by loving partner and best friend for 37 years, Nadean Koch, his daughter Judy, his sons Rob, Chuck and Jamie, his grandchildren Emily, Samantha and Jordan, the very much loved family of Nadean; Larry and Luanne Rutt (Florida) and family, and Lonnie and Cathy Rutt (Alberta) and family, his dear cousin Gerry Hobden, his friends in Sudbury and Sault Ste. Marie, his dear friends on St. Joseph Island and Grace United church, his many friends in Florida, and his gentle and loving golden retriever Mandy. Larry had several colourful careers, including radio and television, advertising sales, and even security at the Daytona 500 race in Florida during many winter months spent there with Nadean. His mid-life educational journey rewarded him with his final career in teaching at Sault College until his retirement at age 65. He loved teaching and was a real natural at it. Larry and Nadean spent 26 years in their beloved St. Joe’s Island home where he treasured the environment, the wild life, and he had a special love for trees. He loved Baseball and Hockey and could quote old players and many stats. He loved singing in the choir and with a small musical group “The Puddingstone Pals”. Larry and Nadean loved art, music, gardening and dancing together. A sincere thank you to all the nurses and doctors at the Sault Area Hospital, and the nurses and Dr. Lupien at the St. Joe’s Island clinic, and the tender loving care he received at ARCH Hospice. At Larry’s request, there will be no formal funeral, however a celebration of his life will take place at a date and place to be determined later. Memorial contributions to Algoma Residential Community Hospice (ARCH), Sault Ste. Marie Humane Society or the North Shore Health Network (NSHN) Richards Landing – Matthews Site would be greatly appreciated by the family. Arrangements entrusted to the Arthur Funeral Home& Cremation Centre 492 Wellington St. E, Sault Ste. Marie, ON P6A 2L9 705-759-2522.
