Elder and former councillor of the Garden River First Nation  - The Toronto Maple Leafs lost a loyal fan on Saturday, February 27th in his 78th year.  Gordon Patrick Jones, loving mentor, creative craftsman, funnyman, cribbage and washer toss master will be remembered and honoured by many that will carry on his legacy, jokes, stories, knowledge and kindness. Gordon was the beloved partner and best friend of Liz Jones (Syrette) for 56 years and husband for 53 years.  Loving father of Cheryl and Terry, Dave (Gov), Anne Marie aka Bunny, and his baby Daniel, aka his fave ;-).   Cherished Papa of his only grandchild Sierra Jones-McLeod. He is survived by his furry soulmates Lily and Disco Madge. Gord was loved and respected by many nieces, nephews, Turtles, boarding students, and “adopted” family members.  Predeceased by his parents Elizabeth and Sam Jones.  Dear brother of John (Aggie) and the late Clifford, Irvin, William, Russell, Rosie, Patsy, Jessie and Bob.  Much loved son-in-law of the late Victoria and the late Justin Syrette.  Special brother in-law of Bernard (Bev), Ronald (Judy), Dolly (Ray), Wayne (Linda), Allan aka Yin (Erin), the late Marie, the late Jiggs, Alice, Brimley Rose, Tony (Roseanne), Elaine and Jackie. Best friend of Wilbert and Edna, Charlie and Jessie.  Special friend of Mary Beaver, Deb, MJ and Mekwan, Wendall, Elmer, Isadore, Ariana, Katelyn, Jamie and Nancy.  He was a hardworking man and started his working life early in the bush with his father logging, then on to Lyons, finally retiring from Algoma Steel after 34 ½ years.  Special thanks to all of his workers, physicians, specialists and caregivers over the years especially to, Bev “Snow”, Pat “April”, Sherry “Oreo” and Beau.  The family would also like to extend special acknowledgement to the staff of the F. J. Davey Home who made his last months memorable.  Friends and family may visit at the Garden River Community Centre (Log Building) beginning at 4:30 pm on Wednesday, March 2, 2016 until the time of the Funeral service on Thursday, March 3, 2016 at 11:00 am.  The burial will take place at the Garden River Catholic Cemetery. Immediately after the service, a potluck feast will follow back at the Garden River Community Centre (Log Building). All are welcome and encouraged to attend.  Memorial contributions and donations may be made to the Soup Kitchen and are greatly appreciated.
