It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Gene Lemieux at the age of 71 at Sault Area Hospital.
Gene was the beloved son of the late Blackie Lemieux and is survived by his mother Rita Lemieux-Dilanzo (née LePage). Proud father of Erin and Emilee Celine, and cherished papère to Cecillia, Saleena, Kennah, Klairah, and Andryk. Gene will be deeply missed by his best friend, Debbie Dunlop. He was the loving big brother of Henry, Lynne, and Diane (Nick), and is predeceased by his brother Paul (Tammy).
Gene wore many hats throughout his working life, taking pride in a variety of labouring jobs. He eventually settled in Blind River, where he worked as “The Weed Man.” Later, his passion for food and community spirit led him to open a local pizza shop, where he became known as “Papa Gene.”
Gene will be remembered for his stupid jokes, rambunctious laugh, big heart, and the way he made everyone feel like family.
As per Gene’s request Cremation has taken place. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers memorial donations (made payable by cheque or online) to the Royal Canadian Legion would be greatly appreciated by the family. His daughters ask that you share a slice of pizza with someone you love in his honour.
