November 4, 1934- May 10, 2025
On May 10th, after a brief but courageous battle with cancer, at the age of 90, you left us to be with Mom.
Dad, you were a devoted husband to our mother, Kathleen, for over 61 years. You were always by her side. In her last years, due to her failing health, she resided at the FJ Davey Home, yet you would be there every day pushing your walker in the sunshine, rain or through 2 feet of snow to spend time with her until she passed in 2023. I don’t think you ever really recovered from your loss.
You were a mentor, a teacher and best friend to us boys, Martin (Doris), Robert (Christine) and Michael (Anita). A devoted father to all three of your daughters-in-law and a caring and loving “Papa” to all of your grandchildren, Brye-Anne (Pawel), Reilly (JD), Courtney, Michaela and Jacob. The addition of your two beautiful great granddaughters, Zofia and Marta, made your heart happy and overjoyed with pride. You were loved by so many and will be remembered by so many more. Dad you never once failed to be there for us, or anyone else, when you were needed. Even well into your seventies and eighties you were there to lend a helping hand or just provide sound advice. You had all the answers.
Aldo grew up in Bayview, and from early on in life, he was instilled with a strong work ethic, and devotion to his family and friends. A type of character that comes by rarely but is instantly recognizable. In his youth, he played hockey for the Soo Rapids and was a member of the Northern Ontario Championship Team. He went on to become part of the Junior Detroit Red Wings (farm team) and later was honoured with the opportunity to play for team Italy in the 1956 Olympic games. Along with his teammates, he was humbled to be inducted to the Sault Ste Marie Hockey Hall of Fame this past January. He was a founding member of the Bayview Athletic Club and coached many young hockey players and teams. Over the years, he would enjoy many “quiet, relaxing and peaceful” games of Bocce in the west end with his gang from the Bayview club. He was an avid outdoorsman in his younger years and enjoyed many hunting and fishing trips with his childhood friends.
He was a lover of life and enjoyed nothing more than sitting around with people and listening to and telling stories (mostly telling). He was also the type to give you a run for your money in a good argument, with liberal use of the infamous “Maniacco Temper”. Aldo was an avid reader, but also loved to watch a good movie. Could he sing? You put a microphone in his hand and this crooner would take you back to the days of Dean Martin, Al Martino, Perry Como, and Neil Diamond. He loved singing for people and secretly wanted to be an entertainer. He spent many hours with his karaoke machine reliving the glory days of the 50’s, 60’s and 70’s. In his last years, he loved to spend time playing cards with his group at the Italian Villa, hanging out with his morning coffee gang, and trying his luck at the Casino, always chasing that big win! You will be indescribably missed by family, friends and the many people you have touched over the years.
The family would like to thank the many people who helped us through your illness. Including the SAH staff of 3A/B, Dr. Evans, Dr. Bowen, Dr. Tozer, Dr. Thibideau and the oncology department, Dr. Sharpe and Dr. Beuhner from Palliative Care. Special thanks to the wonderful people at ARCH, including but not limited to Lisa, Barb, Ashlyn, Joe, Linda, Nathan and Mackenzie, true angels on earth.
Family and friends are invited to O’Sullivan Funeral Home on Saturday, May 24, 2025, from 10:00am-12:00pm. A Memorial Service will follow in the chapel with Father Hamish Currie officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to ARCH or the Cancer Society. Payable by cheque or online.
