1953-2025
Revered as a pillar of strength, bravery and unyielding positivity, passed away on Sunday, May 18, 2025 at the age of 71. Katherine was known for her warmth, generosity and the undeniable loving spirit she brought into the world. She was a compassionate nurse, whose warmth and kindness touched so many lives.
Predeceased by her husband, Roy Maxwell (2002). In her later years, Katherine found companionship and love with her partner, Michel Cote, who brought comfort and happiness to her life. Beloved mother to her three sons Jeremy (Ashley), Tyson (Joni) and Mathew (Luciann). Proud and adoring grandmother of Alexxa, Logan, Layla and Isla, who brought her immeasurable joy. She is joined in rest by her parents Gerald and Edith Sullivan. Sister of Robin Mathewson (Alex), Sharon Candido (John) and Vicki Spurway. She will be missed by her many cousins, nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and the Maxwell family.
With a hefty family tree and a family consisting of both blood ties and bonds formed from the heart, Katherine’s reach was as far as it was wide, and she was cherished deeply by many.
Among Katherine’s most significant accomplishments was raising her three sons, whom she held as her pride and joy. She served as an RN for a considerable part of her life at the General Hospital, Plummer Hospital, Community Living Algoma and Sault Area Hospital before retiring, yet even amidst the challenges life brought her way, she never wavered in her compassion for others. Katherine continued to support her family and extend a helping hand to anyone in need.
Katherine was a big personality in a small package. She had an impact on each person she interacted with. She was courageous, inspirational, kind, loving, funny, full of joy, a ball of fire that showed us what can be accomplished with determination and persistence. She lived her life to the fullest.
Her legacy is one of unyielding kindness and generosity. Even when sick or in pain, she never faltered in caring for her loved ones more than she did for herself. Her life served as a testament to her philosophy, “You can be a survivor, or you can be a victim” and “The world moves on, even when we’re not ready”.
Katherine’s loss is deeply felt by her immense family and all those who knew and loved her. Her memory will continue to live on and inspire strength, resilience and generosity in those whose lives she touched.
A private family graveside service will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the Kidney Foundation or the charity of your choice is appreciated. Arrangements entrusted to Northwood Funeral Home Cremation and Reception Centre (942 Great Northern Rd, 705-945-7758).
