It is with shock and sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Doug at home on Friday, July 1, 2016 at the age of 70. Amazing and loving husband of Betty-Lou (nee Bresnahan) for 48 wonderful, exciting years. Proud and loving father of James Douglas (Tanya), Keri-Lyn McFarling (Jason), and Robert Gordon (Maria). Adoring Grandpa of Justice, Isabelle, and Adelaide; Logan, Abby-Lyn and Hunter; Milania and Robert. Loved son of Isabelle McChesney and the late Robert. Dear brother of Allan (Michele), Beverley, and Caroline (Julian). Brother-in-law of Linda Reynolds (Ross). Uncle of David, Sandy, Lucinda, Allana, Angelina, Ciaran and Alexandra. He was raised in Kirkland Lake, and attended Laurentian University, York University and Western University. Doug began his teaching career in Toronto where he also had the privilege to sing with the Elmer Eisler Singers. During his teaching career in the Soo, he taught and was principal of every high school in the city, with the exception of White Pines. A tremendous musician and singer, Doug sang with Algoma Festival Choir, Chamber Singers, Willowgrove Choir and the Musical Comedy Guild. Doug was a passionate and dedicated member of Algoma Fall Festival, Royal Canadian Legion and Sault North Rotary where his passion was Youth Leadership. Doug was Chairman of the City of Sault Ste. Marie Cultural Advisory Board because of his love of art. Willowgrove will miss his leadership as head of Trustees and a member of every board and committee. His generosity and compassion, not only to his family but with anyone he crossed paths with, will assure us that he is among the saints in heaven. God bless you Dougie, we will miss you.
