It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Roger Dale Mitchell on Monday, May 5, 2025 peacefully, surrounded by love.

He leaves behind the loves of his life, his wife, Judy Mitchell of 56 years, his children, who he was so proud of, Roger Jr. and Tanya (Vito) and his grandchildren, who lovingly called him Papa, Jordon (Victoria), Josh, Vittoria, Ella, Ava and Elysa. Cherished brother and best friend of Gloria (late Harold), Herbie, late Elaine (Jim), Kenny (Cathy), Billy (Mary-Ellen), Cheryl (Ashley), Donna (late Doug), Gordie, Timmy and Donald (Shelley). Special Uncle of many nieces and nephews. He loved you all so much. Predeceased by his parents Herb and Joy Mitchell and his in-laws Bob and Jean McCauley.

Roger was loud, full of laughter, a natural storyteller, he had a gift for turning everyday moments into unforgettable tales. You couldn’t help but lean in and listen when he spoke. He loved catching up with friends and family on his old flip-phone. Always checking in, making sure the people in his life knew that they mattered.

Roger found great joy in the outdoors which was instilled in him from his early days in Goulais River. His time at camp on the Batchawana River, where he spent countless days fishing, moose hunting and swapping stories with his beloved brothers and friends. He cherished his years of deer hunting on St. Joseph Island with Ollie and Pat.

These past few years, as he wasn’t quite as strong as he once was, he was grateful to those who stepped in to lend a hand, offer support and check in. Like his son Roger Jr., Doug,  Edwin, Chad and Mike to name a few, your kindness will never be forgotten. He leaves behind some very important people along with many friends, who along the way became family. He will be missed deeply and remembered in every laugh, every story and every call that now won’t come, but he will always be felt.

Our hearts are full of gratitude for the love and support that we have received. To those who offered prayers, kind words, brought meals, called, or simply came to sit in a quiet presence. Thank you for walking beside us in our grief and honouring Roger’s memory with such grace and love. Special thank you the ICU Nurses for their compassion and care, your kindness brought peace in his final days. Thank you to the Sault Ste. Marie Police and Paramedics for their prompt and professional assistance.

A Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date.

Arrangements entrusted to Arthur Funeral Home – Barton & Kiteley Chapel (492 Wellington Street East 705-759-2522).
