Born Hazel June Pike, June 30, 1927 - August 17, 2017. Hazel lived a long and fulfilling life, and passed away peacefully at the age of 90. Wife of the late Robert (Bob). Loving Mother of Randy (Terry) and Brad (Karen, son James) and her 2 grandchildren, Kristen and Aliesha (Kevin Sloss). Great grandmother to Kieran Sloss. Sister of the late Mabel Deacon (late Harold) and the late Lillian Darou (late Allan). Loving Aunt of several nieces and nephews. Hazel had a long career as a secretary for the Algoma District Schoolboard, and retired after many happy years at William Merrifield School. Hazel was well ahead of her time, embracing reusable canvas bags, herbal supplements, knitting, and yoga long before any of it was fashionable. She had a lifelong passion for health and wellness, and could often be found attending an exercise class, cross-country skiing or taking walks around the downtown area, where she loved to live, well into her later years. She adored her granddaughters, wanting them to grow up to be strong, educated and independent, and loved attending their dance recitals, choir performances, and ice skating events with their schools. Hazel will forever be missed and remembered by her family for always keeping the correct score at the countless baseball games of her sons and granddaughters over the years. Family and friends may visit at the Arthur Funeral Home & Cremation Centre on Tuesday, August 22, 2017 from 11:30 am until time of funeral service at 1:00 pm. Pastor Gene Monin officiating. Interment Greenwood Cemetery at a later time. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Hazel's name to the Alzheimer Society of Canada or ARCH or the charity of your choice. A special thank you to all the wonderful staff at the Extendicare Maple View, where Hazel received excellent care.
