1938 to 2025
Kaija passed gently and peacefully on Tuesday June 3, 2025 spending her last day surrounded with love, warmth and music.
Kaija was born in Riistina, Finland, where she met the love of her life, Veijo Nuutilainen. In 1971, they followed her sisters to Canada, to build a new life in Sault Ste Marie, ON. There, they raised their son, Pasi, and became part of the hard working and vibrant Soo Finnish community.
She found her greatest joy in serving others: as a waitress in Finland, as a kitchen staffer at the Kotitalo, and as a host in her home to family and friends. She always put others before herself, with a song on her lips and a playful smile on her face. Her generosity of spirit and positive energy filled the hearts of everyone around her.
Kaija was predeceased by Veijo (2011). She forever remains a source of love and light in the hearts of her son, Pasi, and his wife, Janet, and family and friends in Finland and Canada.
We are incredibly grateful to all the staff of Kotitalo and MKK for their compassionate care and kindness over the years, and to her guardian angel, whose constant and selfless support meant more to her and us than words can express.
We love you, Kaija, "ja muista, don't work TOO hard..."
A private family celebration of life will be held. Arrangements entrusted to Arthur Funeral Home – Barton & Kiteley Chapel (492 Wellington Street East 705-759-2522). In lieu of flowers, memorial donations (made payable by cheque or online) to Ontario Finnish Resthome Association would be greatly appreciated. Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.arthurfuneralhome.com for the Nuutilainen family.
