1951-2024

A limb has fallen from the family tree that says Grieve, not for me. Remember the best times, the laughter, the song, the good life I lived while I was strong. It is with great sadness and broken hearts that we announce the passing of David on November 10, 2024. His suffering is over from lung cancer. David arrived in Webbwood in 1960 when all his siblings were part of the Sixty’s scoop through the children’s aid society Sudbury. That was very difficult times for all of the children. David encountered many challenges in his young adult life. But he worked hard to have a good life. In 1974 he arrived in Sault Ste Marie. We got married and had 50 years April 26/2024. David worked at the paper mill for 30 years. First Abitibi, then St. Mary’s Paper. David was a very talented man, gifted in so many ways. He was an artist and a member of the Sault Art Society and took many art courses at Sault College from local artists. David had an art show at the public school in Webbwood years ago and a few people from town have a keepsake of a watercolor painting. He even gave some art tips to a few young artists. So, in 2008 we made a big move back to our hometown Webbwood. Living in the country was so wonderful. We worked hard together and made a beautiful oasis. Did worked hard at his sawmill and made so many beautiful accents for the yard. He was so proud of our home and yard. David so enjoyed hunting up the West Branch Camp David 7 Mile every Fall for moose. A great spot for fun, friends, and lots of crazy pop. But all the guys had great respect for their chief. David always had a great senses of humor, he had great comedic timing and we always had a great laugh. David restored so many old cars over the years and he made a hunting cabin with an old school bus. The inside all in Cedar, very rustic and comfortable. He built a sauna that he transported up the west branch for the gang every year. He always made a new shitter for the season, as the last years one was always stolen. He made Camp David most comfortable for his guys. The group of guys changed a little over the years, but all were constant October hunters. This year was a very memorable year for the group even though David wasn’t in the best of health. But David shot 2 bull moose this season, way to go Dave. So, he leaves behind the legacy for his family to cherish. His wife, Mary (Bentley), son Jonathan, granddaughter Jessie, Pappie’s Special Girl. Sister Julie (Peter), Paulette, brothers Gary (Kim), Randy (France), Roger (Terri), Andy, nieces, and nephews. Brother-in-law Michael Bentley (Roxanne), nephew’s Christopher, Steven, and great nephew Alex. Nephew Larry Bentley. Our life long friends Roger and Muriel Seguin and their families, Brantford, On. David always thought of Roger as a brother. Thank you to all our close friends that supported us during David’s illness. We appreciate your thoughtfulness and kindness. Thank you to Rina for coming to the house to give David his last haircut, very much appreciated. Rina, you made his day. What a legacy he leaves behind, the young orphan boy from Webbwood, way to go Dave. What we enjoy in love we never lose for all that we love deeply becomes a part of us. H.K.
