March 7, 1928 - August 9, 2024

It is with heavy hearts that we announce Mary June's peaceful passing at the Algoma Residential Community Hospice on Friday, August 9, 2024 in her 97th year, with family by her side.

Deeply loved and fondly remembered by her devoted son Douglas, daughter-in-law Janet and granddaughter Sherrie (David) Pintaric who will forever remember her as "Nanner". She was affectionately known to her grandchildren, Keyonnah and Konner, as "Grandma Nana June". She will be deeply missed by her niece Debbie Johns who was like a daughter, her “Bingo Buddy” niece Brenda Veltri and her “second son” Gord Hubley. She was a special Aunt to Nik Boldirev, Drew Boldirev (Nicole) and his children Zack and Zoey.

June is now reunited with her beloved husband Murray, cherished grandson Richard, parents Sarah and Douglas Atkinson, sister Mildred (Johns) Krmpotich and brothers Philip, Douglas, Francis, Albert, Robert and William Atkinson, brother-in-law Lorne (Marie) Peat and sister-in-law Jean Boyer.

June drew tremendous strength from her unwavering conviction and belief in God. She prayed the Rosary daily and turned to St. Jude to heal all those in need. She had a strong, independent nature and loved her family deeply. Whether she was blasting her favourite Daniel O’Donnell tunes, winning at Bingo, on a cruise, or fishing, June lived her life to the fullest. Many will remember her by her poolside hospitality on Paradise Ave and her love of baking Christmas treats for all to enjoy.

Her family is grateful for the compassionate care of Dr. Karen Booth, PSW Barb and the ARCH staff and volunteers who are truly angels on earth. Special thank you to Father Charles Abiamiri for his guidance and support.

Family and friends are invited to attend her funeral mass at St. Gerard Majella (211 Pentagon Boulevard), on Tuesday, August 13th at 11:00 am, followed by a light luncheon in the parish hall until 1:00pm. Rev. Charles Abiamiri officiating. A private family graveside service will take place at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. Memorial donations (payable by cheque or online) to ARCH would be appreciated by the family. Arrangements entrusted to Arthur Funeral Home - Barton & Kiteley Chapel (492 Wellington St. East; 705-759-2522). Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.arthurfuneralhome.com for the Peat family.
