Peacefully at his home on Thursday, April 20, 2017 after a wonderful week of 90th birthday celebrations. Reunited with his beloved wife Maria (April 7, 2005). Loving father of Tony (Debbie), Fern (Helen) all of Sault Ste. Marie and Roy (Rita) of B.C. Cherished Grandpa of Rebecca, Stephanie (Randy), Jeremy (Amanda), Carly, Emily, James, Rachel, Cristina (Adam), Mathew and Sabrina. Great Grandpa of Carter, Benjamin and Evelyn. Dear brother of the late Maria Cerqueira (late Jack), brother-in-law of Mario Barrios (Chacha), and the late Avelino Gomes (Luisa). He leaves to mourn nephews, nieces, his great neighbours and his coffee club members at the Station Mall. Special uncle to his oldest and loved nephew John Cerqueira. Our dad immigrated to Canada in 1957 from Portugal, his wife and children followed later. He worked his way through the Tillsonburg tobacco fields, Hamilton, Elliot Lake and eventually became one of the earlier employees of Mannesmann Tube (Tenaris). He retired in 1991 from Algoma Steel. He dedicated his retirement to maintaining his amazing vegetable garden on Shannon Road and frequent trips to Portugal, and the Portuguese Club. Friends and family are invited to a visitation at the Arthur Funeral Home & Cremation Centre on Friday, April 28, 2017 from 6-8pm. A funeral mass to be celebrated from Precious Blood Cathedral on Saturday, April 29, 2017 at 10am. Rev. Hamish Currie officiating. Memorial Interment Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
