May 18, 1930 - July 1, 2025
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Serafino Porco after a short illness at the Sault Area Hospital on Tuesday, July 1, 2025. Serafino was the beloved husband of the late Annina (nee Ianni Palarchio). Loving father of Silvana Carlascio (Pat) and Tullio Porco (Jannette). Dedicated and proud nonno of Jacob Porco (Sandra), Joshua Porco (Allison) and Dante Carlascio (Ashley). Special bisnonno to Christian, Cameron, Millie, Isla, Giada and Nella.
Serafino is now reunited with his parents Salvatore and Rosaria Porco and his in-laws Pietro and Angela Ianni Palarchio. Left to mourn are his brothers Mario Porco (Noelene), Santo Porco (Cheryl) in Australia and his brother-in-law Armando Ianni Palarchio in Toronto. Predeceased by his brothers Domenico (late Margherita), Rocco (Maria), his sisters Emilia Pirillo (late Alfredo), Ortenzia DeCicco (late Giovanni), Flora Furgiuele (late Eugenio). He is predeceased by his brothers-in-law Vittorio Ianni Palarchio, Ettore Ianni Palarchio (Lella), Mario Ianni Palarchio (Gina), sister-in-law Florinda Nicoletti (late Ernesto). He will be fondly remembered by his many nieces and nephews in Italy, Germany, Australia, United States and Canada and many of his dearest cousins, relatives and friends.
Serafino loved the outdoors. He could often be found at his rustic camp on St. Joseph Island, crossbow hunting during hunting season. He was a master winemaker, and he had a profound love for gardening which brought him great satisfaction. Serafino was truly a man of all seasons. He went fishing during the winter and summer months, picked mushrooms, blueberries and chicoria and shared all the goods with family and friends. Our father enjoyed making salami, sausages, prosciutto, roast peppers, canned tomatoes, eggplants, zucchini and olives. An avid gardener, he had a garden at his house, another at Joshua’s, and another at Tullio’s. He found peace among the tomato plants, always eager to share the fruits of labour with others. Serafino’s personality was marked by his generosity and willingness to help family and friends. He cherished the moments spent with loved ones, relishing the joy of having company around him. His home was often with laughter and warmth, embodying the essence of family gatherings. He enjoyed cooking immensely with our mother.
Serafino embodied the virtues of hard work, humility and gratitude. He came from Italy in 1956 on the Queen Frederica Ship, worked very hard at Imperial Steel, construction of Sault International Bridge and Algoma Steel to provide for the family. Serafino was also blessed to share a deep bond with his grandsons and great grandchildren. He held their connection close to his heart and their lives were enriched by teaching them and living the Italian life and traditions. While Serafino may no longer walk among us, his legacy of love, kindness and family values will continue to resonate in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know him. He leaves behind a rich tapestry of memories that will be cherished forever and a family deeply grateful to have walked alongside him.
Family and friends are invited to visit at Northwood Funeral Home Cremation and Reception Centre (942 Great Northern Road, 705-945-7758) on Friday, July 4, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. until time of Funeral Service in the chapel at 12 Noon.
