Passed away peacefully on Friday, May 2, 2025, at the age of 99. Predeceased by his loving wife, Margaret. Cherished father of David (Debra) of Sudbury; Deborah Skirnski (Tim) of Holland, Michigan; Elizabeth Lariviere (Gerry Culina) of Hamilton; and Bruce (Vashti) of Maple. Dear Grampa of Natasha (Steve), late Samantha, Jayden, Jeffrey, Carly (James), Erin (Taylor), Thomas, Dillon, and Sabrina. Great-Grampa of Logan and Oliver. Son of the late Russell and the late Florence Quick. Brother of the late Hilda Szabadky.

Harold proudly served in the Royal Canadian Navy during WWII, receiving the Arctic Star medal for his contribution. He continued his passion to serve by becoming a member of the 49th Field Regiment for many years. After retiring from Algoma Steel in 1988 for 33 years, he served as National Treasurer for the Royal Canadian Naval Association (RCNA) for over 15 years.

An entertainer at heart, Harold brought joy through music, playing the organ for many years across the Sault — including the Royal Hotel, Windsor Park brunches, Root River Golf Club, Tendercare, the Finnish Rest Home, the Seniors Centre, the Naval Vets, and the Legion.

Dad’s quick wit and bright smile brought joy to all who knew him.

A private family service will be held. Interment at Greenwood Cemetery. A celebration of Harold’s life will be held at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 25 (96 Great Northern Rd) in the Merrifield Room on Friday, May 9, 2025, from 3:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. for a time of food and fellowship. Donations in Harold’s memory may be made to the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 25 (Sault Ste. Marie) or the Sunnybrook Veterans Grant-a-Wish Fund (https://foundation.sunnybrook.ca/)

The family wishes to thank the kind and caring staff at Sunnybrook Veterans Long Term Care Centre. Special thanks to Dr. Deering and Carolyn Hutcheson for their compassionate care.
