On January 22, 2018 we had to say goodbye to the unforgettable legend; a man that wrote his own rules..Michael Quinn. He lived 1000 years in the 70 calendar years we had with him, because he embraced life by living hard, partying hard and loving even harder. His most proud achievement in his life was marrying his best friend Sandra, who supported him for over 40 years in all his glory and who also tolerated his larger than life charisma. Their love and dedication to each other is an inspiration.
Michael was a devoted, protective, dependable, proud and aggravating father to Kristie Kopplin and Karrie Scherba. His love for his daughters was one of a kind and he told them every single day. Some would call Michael persistent or some would say borderline stalker either way this ensured he found his girls wherever they were to make sure they were safe.
Michael loved and aggravated, his two son-in laws/ buddies Niall Kopplin and Adam Scherba. His 5 grandchildren, Emma, Grace, Izzy, Quinn and Mckale will miss their hilarious and entertaining Grandpa that they loved so much. Michael’s brother Kerry Quinn and sister-in-law Lois Turcotte (late Tom), will miss his straight forward, unfiltered, and wildly inappropriate comments. Uncle Mike to Laura Jean and Tommy Chilcott, Tommy and Anita Turcotte, Tiffany and Joe Huber and Tara and Andrew Smith.
Michael had a magnetic personality that enabled him to have many friends. He was dedicated, loyal and very annoying to many, especially Jeff and Mickie Law, Tyler and Lezlie Wilson, Brian and Diane Nelson, Merv and Barb Huffman and his coffee club buddies. Friends forever to Ian and Lisa McMillan. Decades of grocery shopping, Friday golf games, many dinners and hours of laughter together. Michael’s life was dedicated to the hospitality and tourism industry in Sault Ste. Marie. Somehow Michael found the time to mentor and inspire many young people including his daughter along the way. His magnetic personality and hospitable charm set the path for a career that led to many lifelong friendships.
At Michael’s request cremation has taken place. Michael will finally be reunited with his mother Barb, father Kernal and his late son Jason. A celebration of Michael’s legacy will happen in May of 2018 in Sault Ste Marie, more information to follow. Donation to the ARCH (www.archhospice.ca) would be appreciated in Michael’s name. Everyone who remembers him is asked to celebrate Mike’s life in their own ways; raising a glass of your favourite beverage in his memory would be quite appropriate, to toast, The Man, The Legend, A man that wrote his own rules…Michael Quinn RIP.
