Joan Riley in her 92nd year passed away peacefully in the comfort of her home surrounded by her loved ones. She was predeceased by husband Roland Riley, son Shawn, daughter Ann Peckford, grandsons Jason and Chris and son in law Ken MacLeod. She is survived by her children Paul (Linda), Susan Manchur (Darrel), Mark (Yolande), Dawn MacLeod (late Kenny), as well as son in law Steve Peckford (late Ann). She was a special Nana Bush to 13 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandson. Treasured sister of Leonard Carr (Carol) of Marsden England. She was also a mother figure, friend and partner in crime to her granddaughter Carrie Thom as they often bought matching outfits to kick up their heels at their old stomping ground the Algonquin, dancing the night away to one of her favorite songs, Pink Cadillac… “I love you Nana Bush”.
In her last few weeks of life there was plenty of love, laughs, tears, storytelling and all-night camp outs on her bedroom floor…it was the best. Our mother was blessed to have the best nurse she could ever ask for, her granddaughter Sommer. Not only did she receive excellent medical care but it was given with pure love, compassion and plenty of hugs and kisses. It was a beautiful way for our mother to end her journey here with us and now continue her new journey with her loved ones who have gone before. We love you so much Mom and there will never be another Nana Bush…you are one of a kind.
May God keep you safely in his arms, good night and God bless. We love you.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a random act of kindness.
A private celebration of Joan’s life will be held at a later date at her favorite place, her grandson Derek’s camp.
