Erin Jane Sheehan passed away peacefully at Peterborough Hospice with her family and friends at her side on Friday, June 20, 2025 in her 62nd year. Beloved mother of Brenna Stroud, Brenna’s husband Will, and Andrea Gorman. Cherished grandmother of Hazel. Loving daughter of Linda (nee McQuain) and the late Michael Sheehan. Loving sister of Colleen Hannah (Greg), Kathy Furlong (Ed), Terry Sheehan (Lisa) and Michaela Sheehan-Woods (Matt). Erin will be sadly missed by her many nieces and nephews, friends and co-workers.
Erin’s faith-filled life was a beacon of hope for others. Her sense of humour and deep commitment to enriching the lives of those fortunate to encounter her bright spirit was a gift we will all cherish. She always saw the best in others and was skilled in bringing out the very best in everyone that she met and with whom she worked.
Grace, wit, compassion, wisdom, bravery and strength was how Erin lived life.
She was a passionate gardener, loved taking walks in nature, eating chocolate and spending time with her daughters. Erin was not only a great mother to Brenna and Andrea, she was also a best friend they could confide in. She always gave the best advice and love. Hazel was the joy of her life!
Erin had a long and distinguished career as a social worker with the Peterborough Victoria Northumberland Clarington (PVNC) Catholic District School Board.
She was an exceptional facilitator, providing professional learning for her colleagues and for the Diocese of Peterborough for the Sacrament of Marriage Preparation program, Priests’ Study Days and the Permanent Diaconate Formation program. Candidates for the Permanent Diaconate appreciated her deep faith, good humour, realistic world view, and honest words of wisdom.
Erin’s life of service to others, and her commitment to making the world a better place was inspired by her deep faith in God.
Erin received the PVNC Everyday Hero Award for her exemplary impact as a social worker. She gave hope to students and families, and helped students to find their own path. “She very honestly sees Christ in every person and in turn, is Christ for so many.”
The family would like to thank the exceptional compassionate and excellent care Erin received from Dr. Morelli and the staff at Hospice Peterborough.
