March 26, 1948 - April 22, 2025

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Rudalph “Red” Skagen on April 22, 2025, at the Sault Area Hospital at the age of 77.

Born in 1948 in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, Red was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend. He is survived by his devoted wife of over 50 years, Wanitta MacMichael, who cared for him with deep love and dedication especially in his final days.

Red will be fondly remembered by his children: Michelle Nickle (Jason), Lisa Storozuk (Jamie) and their families. He was a proud grandfather, or "Poppa Red" as he was known to Levi Nickle (Lindsey Ann Filewich), Taylor Doroudiani (Bobby), Bradley Nickle (Carli), Amy Storozuk (Taylor Hammond), Shane Storozuk (Mikaela Murtonen), and a great-grandfather to Dominik, Jordyn, Finnegan, Ryker, and Nema.

Red was predeceased by his siblings Brian (Leona), Bernie (Carol), Dennis (Beverly) and Clarice (Gary). He is survived by his sisters Bernice (Johnny) and Wanda (John)

Red worked for Heist and PA Canada in his early years and later ran his own interior painting and wallpapering business. He had a sharp wit, a great sense of humor, and a way of making people laugh. He enjoyed simple pleasures—visiting the Station Mall, trying his luck at the casino, and listening to his brothers and family play guitar. Above all, he cherished the time he spent with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

A celebration of Red’s life will be held in the coming weeks. Details will be shared with family and friends at a later date. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.

The family would like to express their deepest appreciation to Dr Bowen, Dr Tozer and the nursing staff at Sault Area Hospital 3B and 3C for the compassionate way they treated Red and our family. The family would also like to extend their gratitude to the staff at the Wound Clinic, Dr. Fratesi and Dr. Castellani for their care and attention given to Red over the last years.

Arrangements entrusted to Arthur Funeral Home - Barton & Kiteley Chapel (492 Wellington Street East 705-759-2522). In lieu of flowers, memorial donations (made payable by cheque or online) to Tracy's Dream would be greatly appreciated. Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared to www.arthurfuneralhome.com for the Skagen family.
