Peacefully in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, Canada on March 2, 2025, in her 88th year.

Sheila was predeceased by her loving husband, Joe Sloan (2016).  She is survived by her cousins, Diane and Clive Dent and family in England, Elizabet and Ian Jako and family in Toronto, as well as by her treasured friend of 74 years, Barbara Johnson and her family.

Sheila and Barbara trained as midwives in London, England, and immigrated to Canada in 1960 to work at the Plummer Memorial Hospital in Sault Ste. Marie.  Sheila's career took her to Toronto where she was an obstetrical nurse for over 30 years before retiring with her husband to Elliott Lake, returning to the Sault in the early 2000s.  She loved her gardens, her dogs, a proper cup of tea, and her friends and neighbours in the Soo.  She was a talented cook, enjoyed a good red wine, and had a sharp sense of humour.

Although her health worsened over the past 2 years, she maintained her independence with the help of her neighbours, Sandy and Derek Williams and family, the many kind PSWs with ParaMed Home Health, and most recently, the staff at Maple View Extendicare.

No service is planned at this time.

In her memory, donations to the SSM Humane Society, ARCH Hospice or a charity of your choosing are appreciated. Payable by cheque or online.
