In Loving Memory of Jennifer Lauren Smith
May 30, 1987 – April 8, 2025
With profound sadness, we announce the sudden passing of Jennifer Lauren Smith at the age of 37. Known to those who loved her as Jenn, she leaves behind a legacy of kindness, compassion, and unwavering love.
Jenn was an honoured and devoted mother to her cherished son, Matson, who was the heart of her world. Her deep love for him radiated in every conversation, every photo, and every dream she held for their future. Jenn's presence will forever be preserved by Matson's father, Matt Lackie, who will ensure that her spirit continues to live on through their son.
Jenn was the beloved daughter of Don and Jamie Smith, and a treasured sister to Ashley Bernardo (Jason) and Chelsea Smith (Jory Bumbacco). Ash, Jenn, and Chels shared an unbreakable bond full of laughter, support, and unconditional love. Her role as Aunt Jenn brought her immense joy—her connection to Nolan, Beckett, and Zyia was full of love and pride. She adored being part of their lives and spoke of them often, her heart glowing with pride. Jenn will be forever missed by her aunts, uncles, cousins, and dear friends. She was a remarkable friend to many—always offering support and always seeing the best in others. She will also be dearly missed by her cherished furbaby, Renaldo.
Jenn brought light into every room she entered. Her infectious smile, genuine spirit, and vibrant energy left lasting impressions on everyone she met. She thrived in her role as a dedicated and passionate teacher, forming meaningful bonds with her students and colleagues. She believed in her students wholeheartedly—and they felt it.
Jenn embraced spontaneity and lived for life’s little adventures. She loved being in nature, found inspiration in books, and comfort in her favorite music, podcasts, and reality TV shows. Jenn was a true foodie—never picky and always excited to try something new.
Whether she was out with friends, gathered with family, or simply sharing a laugh on one of her many daily phone calls, Jenn embraced every moment with grace, warmth, and genuine spirit. Her outgoing presence had a way of filling a room, and her stories—full of heart—will continue to live on in the memories of those who loved her.
Jenn carried a strong faith within her—a deep sense of connection, purpose, and trust in God. Her absence leaves a space that cannot be filled, but her memory will continue to guide and inspire us. Her unconditional love will live on through Matson. Welcoming Jenn in Heaven are her beloved grandparents, who now hold her in their arms—until we meet again.
A Funeral Mass will be held at Precious Blood Cathedral (778 Queen St. East, SSM) on Wednesday, April 16, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. All who were touched by her love and light are welcome to join in honouring her memory.
Jenn’s hopes for Matson’s future were filled with love, ambition, and a deep belief in education. To honour her legacy, a GoFundMe has been established to support Matson’s continued educational journey (https://gofund.me/986786de).
