Died peacefully on Monday, June 13th,2022 at ARCH at the age of 94.
Predeceased by her husband Al Smith, daughter Pat Smith and sister Gwen Brighty. Loving mother of Garr (Mary) and Wendy Piper (Jeff). Nana of Stephen Smith (Lorraine), Marnie Lavigne (Andy), Mitch Piper (Kailen) and Bren Piper. Great grandmother of Spencer and Addison Smith, Cameron and Braden Lavigne. Auntie Joan to John Brighty (Lori Johnson), Sue Brown (Doug) and Kevin Brighty. Special friend of Bev Smith.
Joan was a teacher with the Algoma District School Board (ADSB), Gr.7/8 for many years and was loved by the many athletes she coached. While teaching, she also volunteered for Big Sisters and Telecare for many years. Upon retirement from ADSB, Joan volunteered for ADSB to teach English as a Second Language.
Joan will be sadly missed by all her many school, coffee, bridge, tennis and golf friends.
Joan and her family were very appreciative of all the attention, assistance and compassion she received over the last couple of years from friends and health care workers.
A private family funeral will take place at Port Findlay Cemetery.
