It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Irene Socchia on April 19, 2025. She was the beloved daughter of Ranveig and Guenther Klemm.

Irene leaves behind her loving daughter Jesse-Ann Verdone (TJ), cherished grandson Luca Verdone, and her siblings Hans Klemm, Evelyn Weller, Marylou Wardlaw (Dave), and Karin Walker (Tom). She is predeceased by her dear son, Mark Gigliotti Socchia who she missed dearly.

Irene will be fondly remembered for her generous spirit, particularly with her children and grandson. Luca especially enjoyed the many thoughtful gifts she would surprise him with. Irene had a giving nature that extended beyond her family—she was always willing to lend a hand to anyone in need. Her warmth and kindness made her a favourite cashier at Metro West, where many customers would wait in her line just to see her friendly smile.

Beyond her work, Irene had an entrepreneurial spark and a creative soul. She was full of ideas and dreams—one of which was to open a crepe stand at the waterfront called “For Crepes Sake.” Her passion for business came to life when she purchased her father’s deli, Imported Foods, where she became known for her delicious sandwich trays. Her customers came from all over, including the courthouse and Ontario Lottery.

Irene was a kind and gentle soul, a good friend to many. She loved Leonard Cohen, Joe Bonamassa, and The Dead South—music that often had her singing along or dancing around the house. She was immensely proud of her children and her grandson, and she cherished her siblings and extended family deeply. Though life presented its share of hardships, Irene met each challenge with courage, hope, and grace.

She will be missed dearly, remembered for her warm heart, her laughter, and the love she so freely gave.
