Dec. 1, 1935 – Nov. 22, 2024

Passed away peacefully in the Palliative Care Unit at NSHN-Blind River, surrounded by her loving family, in her 89th year.

She is joyfully reunited with her husband John (d.2014), son Timmy (d.2006), grandson Caleb (d.2015), her parents Margaret and Leslie Russ, her special friend Liz Adams as well as siblings Brenda Russ, Barbara Arnill, Dean Russ, Don Russ, Myrna Sulphur and Gary Russ.

Cherished mother of Tina, John (Karen), Thomas (Paula), Teresa (Ken) and Terri (Mike). Amazing, dedicated and fun-loving grandma of Merin, Marlena, Valarie, Kendall, Kyla, Jacob, Ryan, Sabrina, Shenise and Isaac and G.G. of 17. Gail is loved and will be missed by all her nieces, nephews and cousins as well as many special friends. Her canine family will miss her dearly, especially the treats.

Gail was born in Thessalon, raised her family there, loved the town and was a proud Thessalonian.

A gifted athlete, Gail participated in multiple sports such as golf, curling, cross country skiing, baseball and hockey. She also coached girl’s hockey and baseball.

She was invested in the well being of her community, volunteering for, donating to and canvassing on behalf of numerous causes including the Thessalon Hospital, the Terry Fox Run, St. Ambrose Catholic Church, just to name a few. She was also a Legion member, Branch 182.

Gail served in the medical field for over 30 years working as an RNA, X-Ray technician and ambulance attendant. She proudly wore many hats and did whatever needed to be done.

She was a firecracker and known to shoot straight from the hip. She didn’t mince words and told it exactly like it was. She was fortunate to have many deep and meaningful friendships to enjoy life with, especially in the outdoors, chatting around the bonfire.

Family was important to Gail. She was proud and extremely devoted to their well being. She organized many gatherings that centered around food and fellowship. She always kept an open mind, gave great advice, listened with an intent heart and helped solve problems.

Gail really knew how to find the good in all. We take comfort in knowing she is now pain free and dancing joyfully with her relatives and friends.

The family wishes to thank Tina and John for their loving care. They also want to thank the many relatives, friends and homecare staff who supported her along the way. Finally, the family wants to thank the staff at NSHN-Blind River for making Gail’s final days dignified and peaceful.

Family and friends are invited to a funeral service at St. Ambrose Catholic Church, 286 Water Street, Thessalon on Tuesday, November 26, 2024, beginning at 11am. Father Xavier Ignatius officiating.

If desired, the family appreciates donations to St. Ambrose Catholic Church Lift Fund or a charity of your choice.
