It is with profound sorrow and much love that we announce the passing of Giovanni Strizzi, son of the late Pasqualina and Luigi of Italy and his late wife and best friend, Rosa (née Schieda) with whom he will be reunited. They shared over 60 years of marriage, two children, seven grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

Giovanni is survived by his two children, Luigina (Mario Bellisario) of Winnipeg and Nicolino (Anna-Maria) of Ottawa; his grandchildren, Elena (Blake), Rosanna (Stephen), Cristina (Mike), Maria (Aman), Ayva-Marie Rosa, Giovanni Luigi, and Nicolino Stefano Jr.; his great grandchildren Luca, Leo, Theo, Roman, Ariana, and Isabella; and his siblings Filomena Santucci (late Antonio) of Italy, Assunta Schieda (late Antonio) of Ottawa, and the late Antonio (Maria) of Ottawa. He will be dearly missed by his many nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family and friends both here in Canada and in Italy.

Giovanni was born on June 23, 1930 in Civitaluparella, Provincia di Chieti, Italy. He married his life partner before moving to Swansea, Wales for work in the mid 1950’s. He subsequently moved to Canada where he worked various occupations across Ontario, specifically Ottawa, Kenora and Sault Ste. Marie. He settled in the Soo with his family in the early 1960’s where he worked for nearly three decades at the Algoma Steel Corporation. In late 2019, Giovanni moved to Ottawa to live with his son, daughter-in-law and grandchildren.

The family acknowledges and extends their gratitude to Adriana and all staff at Thorncliffe Place, where Giovanni resided for nearly three years. A special thank you to the West End Villa 5th Floor Hospital Ward for the loving care provided by the team of doctors, nurses and medical staff to our dear father before his passing.

Family and friends may pay their respects at Capital Funeral Home and Cemetery, 3700 Prince of Wales Dr., Ottawa (613-692-1211) on Wednesday, April 16, 2025 from 9:30-10:30 a.m. The funeral service celebrating Giovanni’s life will take place in the chapel at 10:30 a.m. with Fr. Anisetus officiating. Entombment at Capital Memorial Gardens.
