It is with heavy hearts and tears in our eyes that the family announces the passing of our wife, mother, daughter and sister at ARCH; surrounded by her loved ones at the age of 61. Devoted wife and partner of Theodore Sturgeon for 41 years. Much loved mother and best friend of Shawna Jean and Tyler (Michelle). She was so proud to be the grandmother of Makena and Emily. Mitzi was the first daughter of Ella Jean and Gerald Hernden, born in Thessalon, Ontario. Survived by her siblings Randy Hernden (Cheryl), Dee Dee Hernden, Alan Hernden, Cindy Solomon and Tom Hernden (Sue). She always considered her in-laws her family and loved each and every one of them as if they were her own brothers and sisters; Ray Sturgeon (Alice), Carolle Herrington (Mel), Gail Gardiner (late Fred, Murray), Brenda Leach (Bud), John Sturgeon (Tina), Alice Radley (Jim), Debbie McClelland (Wayne), Jennifer Lynn (late Don) and Cyndy King (Kevin). Countless nieces and nephews will miss her dearly. Mitzi was raised in Thessalon where she met the love of her life, Ted, and married in 1976. After moving to the Sault, she raised her family while working at the Public Utilities Commission before retiring to spend time at camp, visit family and travel with Ted. Mitzi became an advocate for sun awareness after being diagnosed with melanoma, which eventually spread and took her life far too soon. Friends and family are invited to a Memorial Service in the chapel at Northwood Funeral Home and Cremation Centre (942 Great Northern Road 705-945-7758) on Thursday, November 23, 2017 at 3:00 p.m. with Mrs. Helen Smith officiating. Donations to the Sault Area Hospital or Algoma Residential Community Hospice (ARCH) would be greatly appreciated in lieu of flowers. Mitzi’s family would like to thank all of her doctors and nurses at Sault Area Hospital Cancer Centre, Dr. Wallace, Dr. Fritz as well as each and every staff member at ARCH for their care and kindness.
