SUURNA, Harry 'Aari'

July 15, 1944 – March 10, 2021

It is with very heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved Harry (Aari) on March 10, 2021 at the Munson Medical Centre in Traverse City, Michigan. He passed away peacefully after a short stay in the hospital. He was the son of the previously deceased Aleksander and Senta Suurna. Born in Saaremaa, Estonia in 1944 he was brought to Sweden and then to Canada during a very difficult time. He obtained his Bachelor of Arts at Lake Superior State College and his Master’s degree at Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo Michigan. He worked as a student councillor at Delta College in Saginaw Michigan and upon retirement moved to the Traverse City area.

He is survived by his son Brenton Gilbert and daughter Alisson Gilbert. Brother of Silvi Hamilton (Dick), Jaan (close friend Brenda), Juri (Sandra) and Lauri (Lori). He will be missed by his nephews Jason Hamilton (Amelia), Brooke Suurna (Sarah), Marc Suurna (Lyndsay) along with his nieces Riley Randall (Paul) and Kristy Suurna. In respect of Harry’s wishes there was no funeral service and the family will hold a celebration of life at a later date. Special thanks to Harry’s friends and neighbours of the Grand Traverse Resort Condos, and the staff at the Munson Medical centre for their assistance and care during this difficult time.
