Early on Tuesday, April 22, Toini passed away at home peacefully in her sleep. Toini is predeceased by her loving husband, Leo and survived by Sakari (Jane), Sinikka (late Timo Kuoppala), Sam (Maarit), Lea (Hannu Hakkarainen), Leila (late Geoff Tyrrel), late Veijo (Heidi), late Eric (Cheryl), Kenny (Jane), Julia (Bill Blomquist), Liisa (Stan McDaniels), Katri (Jeff Biggar) and late Jari.
Toini will be missed by her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, sisters in law and brothers in law, nephews, nieces, cousins, and a multitude of friends and family in Finland, United States and in Canada, that she has touched with her special love. Toini has been a lifelong member of the Old Apostolic Lutheran Church, where she raised her family according to the teachings of the Triune God, as is taught in the Holy Scriptures. Her faith which she carried her entire life, was felt by all those who met her; it carried her through all the heavy trials life had placed before her. Relying on the traveling staff, long suffering, leaning on prayer and her faith in God, such a good example to those who knew her.
Toini was born and raised in Finland, where she married Leo on April 22, 1950. April 22, 2025, would have been Leo and Toini’s 75th wedding anniversary. Leo, Toini and their first child moved to Canada in 1951, then settled in Sault Ste. Marie and there they raised 12 children.
Family and friends are invited to visit at the Old Apostolic Lutheran Church (742 Third Line East, SSM) from 5:00 pm – 8:00 pm on Wednesday, April 30, 2025. A funeral service will be held at the Old Apostolic Lutheran Church on Thursday, May 1, 2025, at 11:00 am. Interment to follow at Greenwood Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Old Apostolic Lutheran Church.
