Dad was always saying there was nothing left that he wanted to see or do, and that he was just “takin’ up space” at this point. And whenever we said, “see you later”, he would respond with “I’ll be here”. But now he is not here, and our hearts are broken.
Gord Taylor passed away on Wednesday, March 19, 2025 after a very brief stay in the hospital. Dad lived independently in our family home right up until his passing at the age of 89. He enjoyed hunting and fishing in his younger years and retired in 1993, getting his money’s worth out of his pension from his time working in Security at Algoma Steel.
He took daily drives, always finding an excuse to hit Pino’s, fast food places, and Rome’s. He spent countless hours sitting on his back deck, visiting with neighbours, drinking coffee and watching the squirrels. He was well known for his sense of humour, quick wit and habit of playing tricks on people.
Gord was predeceased by his parents, Harry and Mabel Taylor, his in-laws Vern and Belle Pearson, and all his siblings, including Myrla, Jackie and Merri-Lee. He is survived by his son Todd (Robin), daughter Jodi (Donnie) and his much-loved grandson, Dawson. He also leaves behind his sister-in-law and brother-in-law Jean and Bob Miller, his brother-in-law Bob Desjardins, and many nieces and nephews.
Dad lived in a fantastic area filled with wonderful neighbours. It is because of the love of these neighbours that he was able to live happily in his home until he left us to reunite with the love of his life, Marion “Marnie” Taylor, who passed away in 2008, and was missed by him every single day.
Thank you to the unsung heroes at the Sault Area Hospital, who made the last week much more bearable – you are appreciated more than you know. And our sincere appreciation to Mary Muio for watching over both of our parents over the years, providing love, support and a whole lot of baking.
Tomorrow morning when you’re having your coffee, think of Dad and smile at the memories.
Should you wish to donate in his honour, he asked that you choose to support Light the Cross, in Sault Ste. Marie. Arrangements entrusted to Northwood Funeral Home Cremation and Reception Centre (942 Great Northern Rd, 705-945-7758). Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be offered at www.northwoodfuenral.com
The world would be a better place with more Gord Taylors in it.
