September 29, 1939 - November 19, 2024
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Virginia “Jean” Taylor-Running, who passed away peacefully at the age of 85 on November 19, 2024, at ARCH Hospice.
Born on September 29, 1939, in Goulais Bay, Jean later moved to Sault Ste. Marie, where she built a life surrounded by family and friends. Known for her kindness, sharp wit, and incredible sense of humour, Jean made a lasting impression on everyone who had the privilege of knowing her.
Jean took great pride in her Ukrainian heritage, which she celebrated through her cooking, especially with dishes like pierogies, cabbage rolls and borscht. She found immense joy in tending to her garden, her love of painting, and preparing meals that brought comfort to all that sat at her table. Above all, Jean was a devoted wife, mother, sister, grandmother, aunt, cousin and friend. Her family was her greatest love, and she cherished every moment spent with them. Her unwavering support and nurturing spirit will be missed beyond measure.
Jean is survived by her husband, John Running; her children; Alison Taylor, Donald Taylor (Ravi), Rebecca “Becky” Taylor, and her son-in-law, Dave Mark. Jean was also a special second mom to Cheryl Morris (nee Leroux). Her grandchildren; Gaëtanne Sabourin, Aaron Gravelle, Brittany Aronson, Sarah Mark, Arian Taylor-Dufour, and great-grandson, Kai Aronson. She is also survived by her siblings, Audrey Colatosti (Joe), Robert Nelson (Trudy), Darlene Cormier (Léo), Brian Nelson and Larry Nelson (Susie). Jean will also be greatly missed by her many nieces, nephews and cousins. Jean was preceded in death by her parents Peter Nelson and Olga Desrochers (nee Andreyko); her first husband, James Robert (Bob) Taylor; her daughter Laura Mark; and her sister, Heather Nelson.
The family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to the staff at Sault Area Hospital, Jean’s palliative care nurse, Donna Rae, the PSW team from CBI and the entire team at ARCH Hospice for their compassionate care.
A private service will be held by the family.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Jean’s memory may be made to ARCH Hospice
