Passed away peacefully at the Sault Area Hospital on Wednesday, January 10, 2018 at the age of 87. Helen is now reunited with her beloved husband Bill. Cherished mother of Marc (Angela) and Jodi (Shelley). Predeceased by her parents Albert and Gladys Smith. Dear sister of the late June Thompson and the late Elaine Shewchuk. She will be missed by her many nieces, nephews and extended family. Helen loved helping others, she spent over 35 years volunteering with the Plummer Hospital and Sault Area Hospital where she enjoyed selling Nevada tickets with her special friend Loreen Danby. She enjoyed knitting infant outfits and socks that she regularly donated to the SAH Gift Shop. Helen was an outstanding seamstress and spent hours hand crafting beautiful dolls. With the skills that Helen had, it would only make sense that she was a lead organizer of numerous craft shows. She enjoyed her time spent at her cottage in Brimley, Michigan where she made many friends and met her dear companion the late John Denn. Friends and family are invited to visit at Northwood Funeral Home Cremation and Reception Centre (942 Great Northern Rd, 705-945-7758) on Wednesday, January 17, 2018 from 1:00 pm until time of the Memorial Service in the chapel at 3:00 pm with Rev. Pamela Rayment officiating. Memorial donations to the SAH Foundation or charity of choice would be appreciated by the family. A special thank you to the nurses and doctors on 3A at the Sault Area Hospital.
