A Barrie, Ont., police officer has been charged in connection with a violent arrest that was captured on video earlier this year.
Ontario Provincial Police say they were asked to conduct an independent investigation into the Feb. 4 arrest of a 20-year-old man.
They say the probe has led them to charge Const. Jason Stamp, 46, with assault and assault with a weapon.
Stamp has been released from custody and is due in court on June 7.
A video of the incident shared online earlier this year shows an officer struggling with a man on the ground, holding what appears to be a stun gun to his shoulder.
The officer is then seen hitting the man on the head with the device.
At the time, Barrie Police Chief Kimberley Greenwood, who requested the investigation, said the video was concerning.
