MONTREAL — Quebec police say a man is facing second-degree murder charges after a woman was killed at a home on Friday in the Laurentian town of Lachute.

Police say emergency crews were called around 2:30 p.m. on Friday to Saint-Exupéry Street in Lachute, where they detained a man on private property that was not his.

Provincial police spokesman Jean-Raphaël Drolet says officers moved quickly to another residence on the same street, where the woman's body was found.

First responders rushed her to hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

The 36-year-old suspect appeared in court on Saturday on charges in connection with the death.

The case has been turned over to investigators.
