MONTREAL — Quebec provincial police say they've recovered the body of a swimmer who disappeared in the Jacques Cartier River about 50 kilometres north of Quebec City.
Quebec provincial police were called to Jacques-Cartier provincial park in Stoneham-et-Tewksbury about 6 p.m. Friday about a swimmer in his 20s who'd disappeared.
Provincial police divers, boats, officers on the ground and a helicopter were deployed to find the man shortly after.
The operation continued into Saturday morning when the body was found about 150 metres from where the victim had vanished.
Police say the swimmers were in the water without a boat or life jackets and were following the current when one disappeared.
The friend was able to reach the shore and call for help.
