BLIND RIVER - On the 26th day of November, 2019, members of the East Algoma Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were conducting R.I.D.E. (Reduce Impaired Drivers Everywhere) checks throughout the evening.
At 10:03 p.m, officers stopped a vehicle and spoke with the driver. During the interaction, officers discovered that the driver and passenger were in possession of contraband tobacco with an approximate street value of $34,000.
As a result of the investigation, Mohamad Keshken, 26 years of age and Sargon Franso, 31 years of age both from Edmonton, Alberta were charged with;
- Possess unmarked cigarettes, contrary to section 29(2) of the Tobacco Tax Act (TTA); and
- Possession of unmarked cigarettes for the purpose of sale, contrary to section 29(1) of the TTA.
The accused persons are scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Blind River on Feb. 6, 2020
