A driver from Red Deer, Alta., is facing charges after a traffic complaint on Highway 17 over the weekend.
On Saturday around 7:30 p.m. officers with the East Algoma detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police responded to a traffic complaint regarding an eastbound white car with no licence plates that was swerving all over the road at inconsistent speeds in the Desbarats area.
Police stopped the vehicle near Garden Bay Road in Plummer Additional Township, west of Bruce Mines.
While speaking with the driver, police say the officers determined alcohol had been consumed and the driver was arrested.
Roland Garbutt, 44, was charged with:
- Operation while impaired - alcohol
- Operation while impaired-blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Elliot Lake on May 20.
The driver was issued a 90-day administrative drivers licence suspension and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.
