NORTH BAY - Chief Superintendent Fern Labelle, commander of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) North East Region, is pleased to announce that Manuela Byrnes has been named the new Commander, Sault Ste. Marie Detachment. Staff Sergeant Byrnes had been the acting detachment commander since May of 2019 and was recently promoted to the rank of Staff Sergeant. She is the first female to lead the Sault Ste. Marie Detachment.

Staff Sergeant Byrnes is originally from Goulais River, and was grateful to have the opportunity to return to Sault Ste. Marie to continue working in the area she grew up in.
