GARDEN RIVER FIRST NATION — Getting pulled over last week for having a missing licence plate has resulted in multiple charges for a driver east of the Sault.

Sault Ste. Marie Ontario Provincial Police say on March 25 at around 2:20 p.m., an officer was conducting general patrol on Highway 17B in Garden River First Nation when they observed a vehicle without a front plate.

A traffic stop was conducted, and investigation determined the driver was impaired by an intoxicating substance, police said in a news release.

As a result, Meagan Jones, 38, of Garden River First Nation was arrested and charged with:

  • Operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs
  • Drive vehicle with Cannabis readily available
  • Drive motor vehicle, fail to display two plates
  • Fail to surrender licence

Jones is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on April 28 in Sault Ste. Marie.

She was issued a 90-day drivers licence suspension, and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.

None of the allegations have been tested in court and Jones is considered innocent unless proven guilty.
