DRIVER CHARGED WITH OVER 80 MGS

(Richards Landing, St. Joseph Island, ON.) – On Sunday October 25, 2009 the East Algoma Thessalon OPP were conducting patrols in Richards Landing on St. Joseph Island, Ontario and stopped a motor vehicle on Richard Street.

The driver, Benjamin TAYLOR (45) of Richards Landing, Ontario was transported to the Thessalon Detachment and has been charged under the Criminal Code with “Over 80 mgs”

TAYLOR is scheduled to appear in Thessalon Court on December 10, 2009 to answer to the charge.

DRIVER CHARGED WITH IMPAIRED

(Highway 17, Bruce Mines, ON.) – On Saturday October 24, 2009 the East Algoma Thessalon OPP received a complaint regarding a driver of a blue van allegedly drinking an alcoholic beverage while driving.

The motor vehicle was located on Highway 17 near Bruce Mines, Ontario and was stopped. The driver Arnold PLACHCINSKI (40) of Thessalon, Ontario has been charged under the Criminal Code with:

Impaired Operation of a Motor Vehicle and
Over 80 mgs

The driver also faces a charge of “Driving motor vehicle with liquor readily available” under the Liquor Licence Act.

PLACHCINSKI is scheduled to appear in Thessalon Court on November 26, 2009 to answer to the Criminal Code charges.

BICYCLE FOUND ON HIGHWAY 17

(Thessalon, ON.) – On Saturday October 24, 2009 an adults bicycle was located just off of Highway 17 in the Thessalon, Ontario area.

If you are missing a bicycle and can identify it, contact the East Algoma Thessalon OPP, Monday – Friday between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.

PLATES STOLEN FROM MOTOR VEHICLE

(Thessalon, ON.) – On October 23, 2009 the East Algoma Thessalon OPP were contacted regarding the front and rear plates being taken from a motor vehicle parked on Water Street, Thessalon, Ontario.

The motor vehicle had been parked in the driveway on October 22, 2009 at approximately 10:00 p.m. and when the owner attended his driveway the next morning he noticed that both plates had been stolen.

CHEESE PLEASE

(Fenwick Twp., ON) – On Sunday, 25th October, 2009 at 1:15 pm on Highway 17 north near Post Office Road, a tractor trailer loaded with cheese pulled over to the east shoulder of the Highway.

The transport sunk in soft sand which caused the entire vehicle to roll over into the ditch and the contents spill out.

The driver was not injured and arrangements have been made to have the contents removed.

BAN ON HAND- HELD DEVICES STARTS TODAY

(Sault Ste. Marie, ON) – Members of the Sault Ste. Marie OPP detachment will be on the lookout for driver’s who are talking, texting, typing, dialling, or emailing using hand-held cell phones and other hand-held communications and entertainment devices.

During the first three months the emphasis will be on educating drivers. During this educational period officers will use their discretion as to whether a charge is warranted which would be by way of a summons.

Starting February 1st, 2010 charges can be laid by issuing an offence notice with a set fine.

Police have always had the ability to lay charges for Careless Driving or criminal driving offences such as Dangerous Driving if situations warrant it.
