The Ontario Provincial Police say they charged a driver who didn’t have a licence on Great Northern Road in the Sault.

An officer with the Sault Ste. Marie detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police was doing general patrol on April 5 before 1 p.m. when their Automated Licence Plate Recognition system alerted them to a vehicle registered to an individual with an expired licence.

A traffic stop was conducted, where an investigation revealed further provincial offences under the Highway Traffic Act.

As a result, a 43-year-old man from Goulais River was charged with:

  • Drive motor vehicle - no licence
  • Driver motor vehicle - no validated permit
  • Fail to have insurance card

The OPP reminds all drivers to keep their driving documents up-to-date, and in a safe place inside their vehicle. Expired or missing documents may result in charges under the HTA.

A spokesperson for the OPP said they don't name individuals who are charged with provincial offences under the Highway Traffic Act.
