East Algoma OPP say they are now investigating 11 incidents connected to a suspected arson spree in Elliot Lake. They are asking for the public’s assistance in bringing it to an end.

In the two most recent incidents, a property on Fox Drive was targeted, with an attempt to set a camper trailer ablaze on April 3. On April 7, a travel trailer was destroyed by fire on Boland River Road, north of Elliot Lake.

The series of incidents began Oct. 19 of last year when officers responded to a fire at an art school on Spine Road, where a horse trailer had been set ablaze.

On Feb. 10, police were called to a church on Ottawa Avenue, where a pickup truck had been torched.

On Feb. 12, 19, and 21, two additional vehicles and a camper trailer were set on fire at separate businesses and at a storage lot on Perini Road. The vehicles and the trailer were parked at the rear of the properties near Perini Road and Fox Drive.

March incidents

In March, police were called to investigate four separate fires.

On March 11, a tractor at an abandoned school on Roman Avenue which had previously been targeted in an earlier incident was set on fire for a second time.

On March 26 and 29, three pickups parked along Fox Drive were targeted. Two trucks sustained fire damage while there was an unsuccessful attempt to ignite the third.

In each case, those responsible fled before emergency services arrived, according to an OPP news release.

Police said anyone with information regarding the fires should immediately contact the Ontario Provincial Police at 1-888-310-1122.
