People living in Spanish woke up in the middle of the night to find someone on the main floor of their home.
Ontario Provincial Police were called to John Street just after 4 a.m. on Friday, December 29.
“The homeowners engaged in a conversation with this individual until police arrived,” OPP said in a news release.
When officers searched the suspect, they say they found a canister of bear mace in their jacket.
David Swift, 36, of Spanish has been charged with:
- Break, Enter a Dwelling House with Intent to Commit Indictable Offence
- Trespassing at Night
- Possession of Weapon Dangerous Purpose
- Failure to Comply with Release Order-other than to attend court (two counts)
- Breach of Recognizance
The accused was remanded into custody following a court appearance in Blind River.
