BLIND RIVER – The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) East Algoma Detachment has charged a man from Blind River with several Criminal Code offences after receiving a call just after 7 p.m. on the April 8, 2015.
Officers were advised of a possible impaired driver that had failed to remain after striking a stop sign on Highway 17 on the Mississauga First Nations.
A second call was received advising the same vehicle was involved in another collision with a tractor trailer.
The driver was located and arrested by the police.
Upon further Investigation, it was revealed that the driver was in possession of a stolen motor vehicle and then crashed the vehicle into a local business and committed theft.
Kenneth GIONETTE, 47 years old of Blind River, has been charged with:
- Theft under $5,000
- Possession of Stolen Property (three counts)
- Theft over $5,000
- Break and Enter
- Fail to Remain (two counts)
- Dangerous Operation of a motor vehicle
- Impaired Driving
- Driving while under suspension
The accused is to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Sault Ste. Marie on April 9, 2015.
